Before homeschooling, please check with your local state or country’s laws and regulations regarding homeschooling. All places are different! Most states in the United States have a state homeschool organization that can help you with the legal things, whether you are homeschooling from early childhood or need to withdraw your child. Aside from the technical stuff, here are some of the more fun ways to get started!
I also recommend de-schooling (i.e. taking a break from school altogether and then slowing dipping a toe into homeschooling after a couple of weeks) if your child is leaving public school – especially if it is following a stressful situation. Just get used to living together and existing in freedom, without loud bells or worrying about the clock.

Let your imagination soar as you envision the educational wonderland you’ll create for your child. Picture cozy reading nooks, colorful art corners, and hands-on science experiments dancing in your mind’s eye. It doesn’t have to cost anything or be Pinterest Perfect to inspire. Enjoy the things that makes your family feel unique and special.

Sit down with your little one and embark on a whimsical journey of discovery. What sparks their curiosity? Whether it’s dinosaurs, outer space, or fairy tales, let their interests be the guiding stars of your homeschooling adventure.

Venture into the world of arts and crafts stores like a treasure hunter on a quest for gold. Fill your basket with paints, brushes, colorful paper, and all manner of magical supplies that will ignite your child’s creativity and curiosity. It’s not hoarding if it’s art supplies, I promise! Well, that or books…

Transform a corner of your home into a magical sanctuary where learning feels like a grand adventure. Decorate with twinkling lights, whimsical posters, and plush cushions where your child can snuggle up with a good book. This space can be in the child’s room, a spare bedroom, or just a corner of your living room.

In the enchanting world of homeschooling, every day is an opportunity for discovery and growth. Embrace the ebb and flow of learning, allowing your child’s interests and curiosity to shape the path you take together. Observe your child’s personality and decide how much or how little of a written-down schedule that they need to thrive. There are lots of different ways to schedule your day without being too rigid or too loose.

Let laughter and joy be your compass as you embark on educational escapades filled with games, experiments, reading vivid books, and imaginative play. Remember, the world is your classroom, and every moment is a chance to learn something new.

Forge bonds with fellow homeschooling adventurers who share your passion for creativity and curiosity. Swap stories, share resources, and bask in the warmth of a community united by a love of learning. There are lots of ways to find other families in your area! Check your state organization’s page, your church, or ask your library what groups meet there. Church secretaries and children’s librarians always seem to know where the homeschoolers are!

From mastering multiplication tables to discovering a newfound love for poetry, rejoice in every triumph, no matter how small. Shower your child with praise, encouragement, and endless reinforcement as you watch them blossom and grow.

As you navigate the enchanting world of homeschooling, remember to savor every moment, from the quiet mornings curled up with a book to the exhilarating discoveries made during hands-on experiments. Learning doesn’t have to happen at a certain time, and often the best learning doesn’t! For in the end, it’s not just about the destination but the magical moments shared along the way.

I’m so thrilled that you found my little cozy corner of the internet! Thank you for taking the time to investigate beginning homeschooling for your family. It’s a momentous decision and I’d love to help you in any way I possibly can as you navigate this.
Homeschooling is always an adventure!
